Kyle Williams

Kyle has participated in Gotham more than 10 years.

Q: Please describe your prior Gotham volunteer and/or leadership experience, if any.

A: I have been the President of the Board of Directors for the past 2 years. Prior to that I was a Director-At-Large and the Secretary for the Board. I have been a long time Captain in D1 and D2 and have held other leadership roles throughout the organization.

Q: Why are you interested in serving on the Board of Directors?

A:  My interest in being a Leader in Gotham still stems from the intent of giving back to an organization that has already given so much to me. I think back to the folks that I have met, the friends that I have made, and the mentors that I have learned from during the 10+ years that I have been in the league, and want to do what I can in order to make sure that this League exists for the next extremely tall (and handsome), gay 25 year old who is looking for a community.

Q: What qualities would you bring as a Gotham Leader and, in particular, to the Gotham Board of Directors?

A: I still pride myself as someone who is a connector of people, as well as someone who is a good listener. I am also someone who is very realistic about where my strengths lie as a leader and know that in order to continue the success of the league that I will have to surround myself with other leaders who are equally as passionate about the mission of Gotham and the continued heath of the league.

Q: What specific areas of the league would you like to focus on if elected?

A:  Generally my goal if elected is to do what it takes to ensure that Gotham will be around 10 to 30 years from now, and beyond. Specifically I would like to expand the pool of folks who contribute to the organization and maintenance of the league. Part of my goals during my second term is to identify and group the next batch of leaders who will continue to take our organization to great heights. My goal is to sunset out of the President role at the end of this term knowing that the league is still in capable and energetic hands. I would also like to find ways to thoughtfully increase the reach of Gotham’s programming, specifically focusing on groups within the community that don’t have as many opportunities to play and learn about volleyball anywhere else. During my first term, we have successfully piloted additional program outside of Manhattan, Finding additional spaces to play without adding additional strain to the organization will be pivotal to the sustainability of the league go-forward.

Q: What do you think should be included in a 5-year plan for Gotham?

A:  In no particular order: a)Creating a more sustainable volunteer and leadership pipeline. b) Establishing long term fundraising goals and targets to maintain the stability of the league. c)Increased leveraging of our abilities as a charity through our 501c3 Designation. d)Understanding where we can expand Gotham’s programing to continue offering the magic that Gotham brings to more folks in the community.

Andre Carneiro

Andre has participated in Gotham more than 10 years.

Q: Please describe your prior Gotham volunteer and/or leadership experience, if any.

A: I’ve been the Treasurer of Gotham for the last 2 terms, and have served in other leadership roles (Grievance Officer, Director at Large, Captain)

Q: Why are you interested in serving on the Board of Directors?

A: I’d love to continue giving back to the organization and make sure Gotham is ready to continue growing.

Q: What qualities would you bring as a Gotham Leader and, in particular, to the Gotham Board of Directors?

A:  I love getting work simplified, automated, or outsourced so that our volunteer time is maximized on the activities that bring the best experience to our members. I also have an eye for compliance, which is critical for Gotham as a public charity.

Q: What do you wish to accomplish if elected?

A: Gotham runs really well as a league. The next horizon is to become a great charity. This will require much more of Gotham’s Treasurer and Finance Committee and I’d love to get Gotham ready to accept donations and apply for grants to continue growing.

Q: What do you think should be included in a 5-year plan for Gotham?

A: 1) Delivering pro bono programming to underserved populations, in partnership with NYC or mission-aligned organizations. 2) Becoming a community partner for real estate developers, as means to securing gym space. 3) Having enough space to accept everyone who registers.

Greg Rubin

Greg has participated in Gotham more than 5 years.

Q: Please describe your prior Gotham volunteer and/or leadership experience, if any.

A: I’m your current reining Gotham Secretary looking to return for a second term.

Q: Why are you interested in serving on the Board of Directors?

A: The tl:dr is that the work started in the first term isn’t finished, so another term is what’s needed to set the next Secretary up for success.

Q: What qualities would you bring as a Gotham Leader and, in particular, to the Gotham Board of Directors?

A:  Proactive, detailed, patient, empathetic, and the ability to listen… I believe respect and trust is there that the voice I bring to the Gotham Volleyball Board and our community is done to create an environment that gives everyone the chance to thrive.

Q: What do you wish to accomplish if elected?

A: If re-elected, table stakes are to make sure you stay informed and make it possible for you to participate in Gotham Volleyball programming as best as I can. The main goal is to find the next Secretary to take over in two years.

Q: What do you think should be included in a 5-year plan for Gotham?

A: Gotham Volleyball needs to start leveraging its 501c3 status. It can unlock so much for all of the things people want for the community to grow (partnerships, outreach, space). But we need more volunteers that are willing to follow through on what they want to achieve. I believe and know it’s possible and here to help facilitate making that happen.
