Registration and Tryout FAQs

Important: Update Your Credentials

Gotham has moved to a new registration system, powered by LeagueApps!
To make your experience smoother, we’ve migrated some information from your Gotham account into LeagueApps, notably the Division and/or Power Class you played in the last 3 seasons. To make sure you benefit from this migration and have no eligibility hiccups, please follow these steps when you are prompted to login for the first time:

  1. Click Create Account
  2. In the account creation prompt:
    – Enter the email address where you received this message
    – Establish a password, taking note of the password requirements
    – Enter your first and last name
    – Click Create Account
  3. On the next screen, click Log In to access your account.

Registration Frequently Asked Questions

(1) I am trying to log in to register, but having problems? You are getting this screen because your log in information is not correct. Remember that we have moved to a new registration system and you need to Create a new account with League Apps. (See instructions above.)

(2) I’m totally new to Gotham (and maybe even volleyball) and I have no idea what to register for? Can you help me? Yes! We have a guide for your right here.  Also, if you’re totally new to volleyball, check out our PowerPlay program.  If you’re interested, register for Division 11 (or higher) and PowerPlay, come to the Division 9, 10 and 11 tryouts on September 7 and, if you don’t make a team, follow the instructions to join PowerPlay.

(3) How many divisions/power classes should I register for? As many as you feel comfortable playing in. You should be realistic about your level and volleyball experience, but other than that, we encourage you to be open-minded and be willing to play in multiple divisions/classes. The more levels you try out for, the more likely it is that we will be able to find a place for you.

(4) I want to add/remove divisions or Power classes – how can I do that? You can always add or remove classes at any time up until the tryouts. Just log back into the system, and select “Edit Registration” from your Dashboard.

(5) Where are tryouts? Most tryouts are held on the 7th floor of the Bayard Rustin Educational Campus, 351 18th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues in Chelsea. However, on rare occasions tryouts will be at our two other venues, the O. Henry Lab School on W 17th St between 8th and 9th Avenues or the Elias Howe School on West 44th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues, and if that is the case it will specify that on your tryout confirmation.  Go to Rustin unless you specifically see a note telling you to go to another gym.

(5) I forgot to register online! Can I still come to tryouts? No.  Unfortunately, in order to ensure a safe tryout process, we are only conducting registration in advance this year and will be instructing people to show up at a specific time for tryouts.  If you show up without having registered online in advance, we will only be able to accommodate you if space remains available.

(6) I am new to Gotham, but can’t make the tryout date for the division/power class I am interested in. Is there anything I can do? For league play, tryouts are absolutely required for new players and, unfortunately, we don’t have any “alternate” tryout dates. We need the captains to evaluate your level of play before putting you on a team.

(7) I am a returner to Gotham (and played within the past 3 seasons) but can’t make tryouts.  Is there anything I can do?  For league play, if you played within the past 3 seasons (Spring 2019 through Spring 2020), you can be considered for the last division you played in or lower (for example, if you played in 3, you can be considered for Divisions 3-11) without attending tryouts.  Please remember, you still must register online by the deadline in order to be considered.

(8) I am still very confused. Can I contact you by e-mail? Yes, feel free to e-mail your question to [email protected]. Or you can send us a message on Facebook, or even tweet your question to us at @GothamVB. But please, we get a lot of e-mail messages so look around the website and these FAQs for your answers first!

I see the tryout dates, but I do not see a schedule or what night of the week each division plays. it would be helpful in determining if this will work into my schedule or not.

probably looking at division 1 and 2 . If you know the day of the week or times the season will be held that would be helpful for myself and likely the website.

  4. Juan,
If you don’t see “My Current Tryouts” it means registration is not open.
