Registration and Tryout FAQs

SPRING 2020 REGISTRATION WILL OPEN ON DECEMBER 23!

Here’s more information on how to register:

How to Register

(1) Log into the website by entering your user name and password on the upper right-hand corner of the site. Returning members, use the same log in from last season. New members need to create an account by clicking “SIGN UP” in the upper right-hand corner of this screen.

(2) Once you log in, you will be taken to the “My Account” Page. If not, click on the “Account” link where the log in box used to be, on the upper right-hand corner of the website. Once on the “My Account” page, you will see a section that says “My Current Tryouts.” In that section of the page you will find a button that says “Register Now.” Click on the “Register Now” button.

If you do not see “My Current Tryouts”, then the registration is not currently open. Please read subscribe to our newsletter and watch our Facebook page for information on when registraiton opens.

(3) That will take you into our registration system. The first page is all information, scroll down to the bottom and click on the continue button and fill out the next few forms.

(4) Once you have filled out all the forms and completed the registration process, you will get an e-mail to confirm your registration. You will also be given a tryout number(s). Write those down and bring your confirmation e-mail with you to tryouts.

Registration Frequently Asked Questions

(1) I am trying to log in to register, but when I do, I keep getting a screen that tells me a log in is required, and the log in box remains in the top right-hand corner. How do I get to my account page? You are getting this screen because your log in information is not correct. If you are new, don’t forget to create an account. If you already have an account, try to log in again. Our system uses your email address as a unique identifier, so if you created an account with a different email address, you will not be able to log in. You can change your email address in your account settings. If this continues to be a problem, e-mail [email protected].

(2) I’m totally new to Gotham (and maybe even volleyball) and I have no idea what to register for? Can you help me? Yes! We have a guide for your right here.  Also, if you’re totally new to volleyball, check out our PowerPlay program.  If you’re interested, register for Division 11 (or higher) and PowerPlay, come to the Division 9, 10 and 11 tryouts on September 7 and, if you don’t make a team, follow the instructions to join PowerPlay.

(3) How many divisions/power classes should I register for? As many as you feel comfortable playing in. You should be realistic about your level and volleyball experience, but other than that, we encourage you to be open-minded and be willing to play in multiple divisions/classes. The more levels you try out for, the more likely it is that we will be able to find a place for you.

(4) I want to add/remove divisions or Power classes – how can I do that? You can always add or remove classes at any time up until the tryouts. Just log back into the system, and go to the “My Current Tryouts” section of the Account page, and click on the “Modify Registration” button.

(5) Where are tryouts? Most tryouts are held on the 7th floor of the Bayard Rustin Educational Campus, 351 18th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues in Chelsea. However, on rare occasions tryouts will be at our two other venues, the O. Henry Lab School on W 17th St between 8th and 9th Avenues or the Elias Howe School on West 44th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues, and if that is the case it will specify that on your registration.  Go to Rustin unless you specifically see a note telling you to go to O. Henry.

(6) I forgot to register online! Can I still come to tryouts? Yes. We try to have a computer where you can register on-site, but it will take you longer to get started with your tryout, so please register in advance.

(7) I am new to Gotham, but can’t make the tryout date for the division/power class I am interested in. Is there anything I can do? For league play, tryouts are absolutely required and, unfortunately, we don’t have any “alternate” tryout dates. We need the captains to evaluate your level of play before putting you on a team.

(8) I am a returner to Gotham (and played within the past 3 seasons) but can’t make tryouts.  Is there anything I can do?  For league play, if you played within the past 3 seasons, you can be considered for the last division you played in or lower (for example, if you played in 3, you can be considered for Divisions 3-11) without attending tryouts.  Please remember, you still must register online prior to tryouts in order to be considered.

(9) I am still very confused. Can I contact you by e-mail? Yes, feel free to e-mail your question to [email protected]. Or you can send us a message on Facebook, or even tweet your question to us at @GothamVB. But please, we get a lot of e-mail messages so look around the website and these FAQs for your answers first!

I see the tryout dates, but I do not see a schedule or what night of the week each division plays. it would be helpful in determining if this will work into my schedule or not.

probably looking at division 1 and 2 . If you know the day of the week or times the season will be held that would be helpful for myself and likely the website.
